Help
Short answers about starting games, controls, saving and what to do when something will not load.
Starting a game
Open a game's page and press Play. The game downloads at that moment. Nothing is installed on your device, and you do not need an account. You can read the rules and controls without loading the game.
Controls that work in every game
| Action | Keyboard | On-screen control |
|---|---|---|
| Pause or explicitly resume | P | Pause button; Resume in the pause menu |
| Sound on or off | M | Sound button in the bar or pause menu |
| Optional fullscreen | F | Fullscreen, where your browser supports it |
| Cancel a selection or close a game panel | Esc | Cancel or Close where shown |
| Leave the game | Tab to Exit game | Exit game in the bar or pause menu |
Escape pauses when there is no game selection or panel to dismiss. It does not resume a paused game. Each game's own controls appear below its player.
Saving
Progress is stored in this browser on this device. If you clear your browser's site data, it is removed. There are no accounts, so progress does not follow you to another device.
Runegrid saves the committed board after each move and keeps completed contracts and medals. An unplaced preview is not a saved move. Continue a saved attempt from the contract menu.
“Progress is temporary in this session.” This appears if your browser blocks storage, for example in some private windows. You can still play, but the progress may be lost when the tab closes.
“Couldn't save just now. Your current run is safe.” This means a later write failed. Continue playing in the current tab; do not rely on progress being available after closing it.
Will it run on my device?
The game requires JavaScript and hardware-accelerated graphics with WebGL 2. These are built into supported modern browsers. No plug-in or game-specific driver installer is needed.
Our testing targets include current desktop Chrome, Edge, Firefox and Safari, Android Chrome and iOS Safari. These are targets, not a claim that every device has passed. Each game page states the current testing limits.
Runegrid is designed for a mouse, a keyboard or touch, in portrait and landscape. Desktop viewport emulation is not a replacement for testing on real phones.
Fullscreen and phone layout
On a smaller screen, Play expands the game to fill the browser's visible area. This is different from the browser's optional Fullscreen feature. Fullscreen is offered only where the browser supports it.
Press Escape or use the browser's exit control to leave fullscreen. Local play pauses when fullscreen is exited. Runegrid does not capture your mouse.
If a game will not load
- Use Retry. A file may have failed to download.
- Check your connection. The player stops a stalled load after 30 seconds and offers another attempt.
- If you see “This game can't start on this browser”, try an up-to-date browser with hardware acceleration available.
- If graphics are interrupted during play, follow the recovery prompt. It should never award the same move twice.
The game does not ask you to install a driver from this website. Return to games.
Keeping your session comfortable
Only the game you choose is loaded. Pause or exit when you stop playing. Switching tabs pauses local play; returning does not automatically resume it. Reduced-motion settings are available in the player.
Device power use varies. Use low-power graphics, pause when taking a break and exit a game when you finish. A particular frame rate or battery life is not guaranteed.
Bots and online play
The current games are single player. There is no online matchmaking, chat or public leaderboard. Any future computer opponents will be clearly labelled CPU or BOT.
